I Know I Already Said This But...
Naomi Judd, REALLY MUST BE STOPPED. Really. I know that Star Search is dreck. And I know that Arsenio Hall is among the top ten most annoying people over. But really. If you can, check out Star Search and witness the madness that is Naomi Judd.

Where Kiki At?
Very happy about the new and improved Showtime at the Apollo format. Thumbs up. However, this[link deleted b/c it's no longer there]? Is a mess. And right now, someone is doing a rock violin version of Papa Was a Rollin' Stone. Only on the Apollo. Only.
Today I fell victim to Clinique body products. Issues.
Apparently no one can put out a song on their own anymore. XY featuring BC and FG. FG featuring KY and IL. Why? Shout outs are one thing, but this is insane. Hi, this is my trip to the bathroom featuring my feet and my ass.

Oh, I Don't Know - You Choose!
Last time I checked, letting The Home Audience choose your husband was NOT A GOOD IDEA. Survivor, ok - American Idol, hilarious (did you see CHARM???), but still, fine - Fear Factor, Meet My Folks, crap, but still, ok, whatever - but MARRIED BY AMERICA? I have to believe that we are hitting rock bottom and soon we will have to regain a clue. So irritating that it's about selling more crap products rather than creating quality content. Feh. Clearly, but thankfully, I'm not alone in this rant. And I love how this cover article about "The Entertainment Industry" doesn't mention Theatre ONCE. A testiment to just how not legitmate of a part of the business it has become?
Very interesting article on the USA's approach to the abortion issue.

Ok. 13 Ghosts?
Ok. 13 Ghosts? There are worse ideas, but few.
Some MLK Day thoughts:
The true power of the individual - of each of us - on everything we touch, is incredible. Every interaction we have, large or small makes a difference. Every time we choose to smile instead of averting our eyes, every time we choose constructive criticism over ridicule, every time we choose patience over frustration, every time we choose to communicate rather than to block, every time we just simply chose peace over conflict.
But peace takes action. It takes us using our power to make that choice every time - no matter how small it may seem. It resonates.
So on this day when we are so likely to see the famous clips of so much hate, so much violence, so much ignorance and injustice - I hope it inspires us to use our power to make choices of peace.

Humidify Me
Solved the dry heat problem - at least in concept - bought a humidifier - with what $$, you can maybe tell me. Very excited to see how it goes.
Ray Liotta on SNL. What is that really about? Really? Will this be one of those shows that you expect to be completely lame, but in the end goes down in history? Somehow, I doubt it.com.

Uh-uh. No. Uh-uh.
Ok, I thought the background vocals to Love Child were the best ever, but now I am reminded of the supremity (word? I think not) of the background vocals to Midnight Train to Georgia - "dreams don't always come true. uh-uh. no. uh-uh" - BRILLIANCE I TELL YOU! BRILLIANCE.
More brilliance is whoever came up with the concept of muting instruments - namely the Trumpet. WOW. Whether it's "The Road You Didn't Take" or jazz tunes as in this evening, the muted trumpet does things to me. Of course so does an expertly played oboe. Or piano. Or saxaphone. I clearly have issues.
It is 10 degrees outside. And that is all. Walking home tonight felt like I was suddenly back in Evanston. And then there's the whole "dynamics of my own damn home" thing. Which way do I sleep so that I am not suffocated in my sleep by the dry heat, but that I don't wake up rigid with cold? Door open with window shut? Door closed window cracked extra blanket on the left side of the bed? Way too complicated.

Bad Idea Jeans
More ways to make sure the poor need lots of health care in their old age - GREAT IDEA. Would you like a unnaturally bright colored high fructose carbonated beverage with that?

Allan Harris
I maintain. Allan Harris ROCKS. It keeps being remarked upon by different people - as it should be - that he is continually reinventing himself. But the beauty is that that's just our way of defining it. He just does what he does. And we call it reinvention b/c we're like to put people in boxes. But that's why we are lame. :).
Here's hoping someone somewhere has the money and the smarts to be developing new material for all these fabulous new spaces.

Go'on and Sing, Girl!
Just switched everything over to blogger pro. Love it.
I have to begin by admitting that I taped Star Search. Both episodes. So many things to say. Arsenio - what? And I never knew Naomi Judd was so WRONG. So incredibly wrong. The things that came out of that woman's mouth. I may have to keep watching just for that. and poor Chaka - she's a diva and a half, but I would love to know the back story on how she ended up as the 1st guest judge. If there was one reason I was glad to have seen it, it was for little Tiffany Evans. Go to her bio on the Star Search Website, and watch her video. Now. You. Go. Girl. TOO MUCH. And I am almost positive she is the same little girl I almost strangled on the subway a few months back b/c a. she was talking loudly about how something important had happened (a phone call or something, she just kept saying things about TV and filming and singing - so everyone was sure to hear) and b. she was practically SITTING on my shoulder, kept bumping into me, obviously, and apparently did not know from the words "excuse me." But the girl sure can sing. Whew!
And Arsenio said "say it one mo' 'gain" on national TV and it almost killed me. Chenette will be floored.
I also saw The Lord of the Longer than the first Long Ass Rings. I have two words. TREE BEARD: "That does not make sense to me. But then again, you are very small. Perhaps you are right."
Killed me.

Huh?
Believe that the miscommunication has indeed gotten more complicated, more widespread and more insane. Just when you thought it couldn't be any more completely out of left field, something comes @ you from right field - by way of home plate. The drama.

Do I Know You?...
Mercury is most DEFINITELY in retrograde. The number of communication debacles that have befallen me in the last 48 hours alone rival that which might happen weekly in a society where everyone speaks a different language with a different part of their body. Or something. It's wacky I tell you, WACKY.
Speaking of wacky, let's talk about picking people up on the subway. Does this happen? Has anyone ever seen this happen or been a part of it? Not some homeless guy or some drunk guys (or girls) harrassing some poor soul, but two, actual functioning people MEETING on the subway... What are the rules for that?...

Ugh
Ok. Maybe we can't count, but it could be worse:
An excerpt from this week's Economist on the recent election in Kenya:
It was a relatively good election. With Mr Moi constitutionally barred from standing again, there was less violence and rigging than at previous ones. KANU [the outgoing party] battled manfully, led by Uhuru Kenyatta, the callow son of Kenya's founding father. Some opposition rallies were broken up by club-wielding thugs and volleys of arrows. Police fired on Rainbow [incoming party] campaigners in Nairobi, killing three. The wounded were barred from hospital by gun-toting KANU men, who beat them up again, plus a doctor for good measure. Elsewhere, a KANU candidate reportedly handed out machetes displaying his slogan.
The opposition was not blameless. Mr Kenyatta was barred from most of western Kenya by burning barricades and stone-throwing mobs. Raila Odinga, a Narc leader who defected from KANU not long before the election, threatened to lead a million-man march on State House if Mr Kenyatta were to claim victory. One KANU district candidate's husband and six children were burned to death in their beds.
Still, a team of EU observers ruled the election free and fair...
Free and fair indeed.

Team Movies Rule
Can we talk about how much I love Any Given Sunday? Is there really anything better than a well made football movie? LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. How bad ass is Cameron Diaz's character? How is it that even though they win in every football movie - scratch that, every "team" movie - we are STILL on the edge of our seat until the last moment? And when they do win, we're jumping up and down as though we haven't already seen the movie 9 times?
Or maybe that's just me.
See. There I went. I just cheered like a ninny. Alone in my own home.

Movie Ho
I have seen four movies in the past 48 hours. And it doesn't seem abnormal to me. So I've decided it is not. Of course NONE of them were the Twin - I mean the Two Towers. And, scene.

No Soup for YOU!
Tonight was madness with the volleyball gang. We planned Carmines, wised up to Rosa's Place, and ended up on the UES @ Tony De Napoli's. I was schooled in the ways of the UES in that it is was actually LESS for my cab home to Inwood. Believe it kids. I didn't. MORE discussions tonight on The Two Towers (which I can not stop calling the Twin Towers). I must see it. And soon. Soon they will begin kicking me out of situations b/c I haven't seen the movie. That would be unfortunate.
