I think maybe my favorite thing about IM (besides the fact that it's God's gift to the multi-taskers of the world), is when you are IM-ing with co-workers and you actually HEAR them LOL and then they type it. It's like it supports the fact that when you aren't in the same room with the people you are IM-ing, that it's really happening. Or something.
