Backpacks
Kanye West is on Def Poetry Jam right now (btw, not doing nearly as well as all the amateur poets), and he is wearing a backpack. Can someone explain to me this fashion "statement" if you will? WHADUP WIDDAT? Gabriel? Perhaps you know...
And how cool is it that the the violinist I randomly stumbled across in a downtown jazz club 7 years ago and decided right then and there was the best thing since sliced bread, now does the theme song for Def Poetry Jam, in addition to being known as "The Hip-Hop Violinist." She even recently released a hip hop song. Miri Ben-Ari. I really don't know what's going on with all that, but it's still cool.
A good friend of Maya's, Vanessa Hidary, was on tonight and she was good. Damn good. she posed a very good question - "why are we always tryin' to change grown ass men?"

better question, why is his grown ass walking around with a backpack? she should have asked him. it has something to do with being truly "hip-hop". sigh, i just want to tell that brotha its 2004 not 1994.
