No Wonder We Can't All Get Along

This article in the Times this morning nearly broke my heart. To know that there are thousands of stories like this and that people are walking around with them. To think of all the stuff wrapped up in an incident like this and how good we are at not processing feelings or supporting the processing of feelings as a society. But it's great to see that he is using film and theatre to work through it all, and in the process maybe he'll let someone who can't quite bring themselves to face their own story a little bit closer to making the first steps.

THAT is powerful. It is always an amazing thing to hear people tell stories that I was blessed enough not to have experienced but capture the dynamics of race in our society in ways that academic rhetoric cannot. Even though this happened 42 years ago variations on the theme continue to occur and clearly those who lived through such experiences are affected for a lifetime.
