Pole, Meet Nicole, Nicole, Meet Pole
Last night, I backed my mom's car into a pole. A big, wooden, pole. I'm ok, though my neck will start going insane in a few hours. The car's relatively ok, minus the broken tail light, and the pushed in driver's side rear bumper.
Yay, me.
This was the culmination of a day in which it took me an hour and 15 minutes to get to work (with no traffic, it takes 30 minutes). I knew I was doomed when they mentioned 157 (the highway out of E'ville) on the traffic report (they usually only cover the major St. Louis arteries). It took me 20 minutes to get from 157 to 255 (usually 3 minutes). The fog was so think, you could barely see 10 feet in front of you. As I went up the ramp from 270 to 255, there were at least a half dozen cars off the side of the road in various states of oops. Then when I got to within a few block of my office, what is usually a 5 minute series of stop signs and stop lights turned into a police directed circus. I missed NYC cops for 20 minutes as these guys ineffectively tried to direct traffic. It was a mess.
However, at the end of that day of driving hell, I can still say that I do not miss relying on the subway.

Eeeps! I am glad you are okay! God. Driving in weather is probably my least/most feared thing in the universe. One of the reasons I DO long for public transportation :-) Of course telecommuting helps as well ...
