Softball Report 5.12.05

RT v. Momentum - by Dave Hart (AKA Coach)

As the sun beat down on skin-tight jerseys, sweat fueled the chicken spirit that is the RT softball team. They marched onto the field of battle, armed with all the essentials for a championship team: 5 gloves, 1 bat, 48 beers, 5 adoring fans and 1 huge pair of sunglasses.

In between sips of beer I saw not coworkers on that field, but a team that had come together with a single focus. Bats swung, runs were scored, the first recorded RT double-play was turned. Tim-may Red Pants was throwing darts from the mound, Liz rounded the bases at will in a blur of curly hair, and the coach was appropriately relegated to the bench.

However, as history has taught us, destiny cannot be fooled. Momentum shifted in a flash producing last-inning runs to move ahead of the brave chicken chested warriors. RT watched in disbelief as the final run crossed home plate, assigning the 8-7 defeat and 0-1 record. There was no joy in Mudville that night, until the beers kicked in...than we were fine.
