Um...

I'm thinking that maybe this isn't ok.

Peta's new ad campaign. Use the links at the left to view all the ads.

Dare I make a comment? Only to say that when I look at this, it speaks to me a larger issue of using historical events and/or figures in advertising. I first thought on this when the MLK foundation was selling the rights for advertisers to use his image and words within advertising. Does this degradate the significance of the figure/event?

As for these ads specifically, I think they fail. PETA is only speaking to there own here; it's way too large of a leap for anyone else. Maybe we should ask if they would like to draft an animal 3/5s voting bill...you know, as a start.

hmm, yeah, thats a touchy one. i do think that the reason people justify killing animals for food and clothes is because they think their lives are less valuable than humans. and somehow people are able to ignore that it took a violent act to provide that 'product'. i do think its injustice. and i do appreciate that peta is trying to get people to understand it as that. but...i agree, i don't know how many minds are changed with peta's tactics, i think people just think they are insane and fanatical. i would have appreciated it more if it were more of a general injustice campaign...it seemed an inordinant amount of those comparisons were to africans as opposed to other areas of injustice. which was a pretty wierd borderline stereotypical parallel btw. african/animal thing that for me makes the campaign kind of backfire for me.
