Welcome to Kaua'i!
This is the part of the trip where I get a little antsy about having no "plans." There are now eight of us, and I'm trying not to be "the one." Because I'm on vacation. But there are eight of us - doesn't that mean we have a plan???? I know. Settle down.
Here's our view to the right

and to the left

We stayed up the latest we've stayed up since we got here, which was midnight. Lucky for us, there are wild roosters everywhere, and they woke us up at 7am sharp. Thanks.

That Sun Done Made Me Tired
I'm obviously a wussy. Or I'm getting old. We played tennis at 9:30 this morning, and by 10am, I was done. Finished. Whooped.

After a long shower, we headed up to Kaanapali to retrieve Cameron's wallet, and do some shopping at Whaler's Village. While there, we visted the Whaling Museum, and I discovered that I'm now adding whale sounds to the list of things I can't deal with, right up there with kicklines and goats. Can. Not. Deal. Scene.
Tonight we ordered pizza from room service and watched Idol maddness. Tomorrow, our last full day in Maui - whale watching and a luau!

American Idol, Season 5
Good gracious.
I forgot to write about this last night (yes, I am watching AI in Hawaii). Did we all see Crazy Dave? Have we all seen an episode of Space Ghost Coast to Coast? Was his entire segment in the audition room NOT timed and edited EXACTLY like a live action episode of Space Ghost? Insane.
And tonight, HI. Garret, the as-soon-as-I-get-to-LA-I-will-realize-I'm-gay.

Thank God
Yesterday was a day have hallelujahs.
I woke up yesterday around 7am, got up to check my email, and there was an email from my brother in law to an article about a fire in Pinebrook in Edwardsville that destroyed an unoccupied house. Imediately, I'm like, OMG. Our house is unoccupied. Our house is in Pinebrook. After some googling I discovered that it was actually not our house, but the house next door. Good gracious. I later found out, after calling my sister's mother-in-law frantically, that her father-in-law had gone up there at the height of the blaze at 2:30am, and called my parents at 3am St. Louis time (which is 11pm Hawaii time).
Luckily, by some miracle, even though the fire was "Big. Massive. Huge." and took 2 hours to control and another 2 to put out and the fact that our neighborhood is such a FOREST, somehow the fire was contained and our house, unharmed. There's apparently some minor roof damage, and a window facing the house that burned is cracked, but that's IT. We have a house. Hallelujah.
After the shock, which still isn't gone, we started thinking about the stress we missed by not being there. We wouldn't have known everything would be ok. We probably would have gathered the cats, packed some bags and stood in the street all morning praying that our house didn't catch.
Thank God that we have friends and neighbors and family-by-proxy who went by and took photos and kept us posted enough that we're just thankful we have a house and thankful we weren't there to be traumatized.
In the morning yesterday, we finally partook of the $27 breakfast buffet. Well, I did. I have a thing about breakfast - good breakfast. I love it! Cameron and Mom humored me, but got breakfasts that cost a bit ledd than mine. But it was worth it! After that we planned to go to the beach, but decided to stay in and look at the beach. After my dad finished his conference meetings, we all headed up to Lahaina town, the former capital of the islands. It's a great, neat old town, with a ton of shops and restaurants, and a great view. Here's my dad and us girls in front of the world's most gigantic banyon tree - well, part of it - it takes up a city block.

After eating at Bubba Gump's, which I'd successfully avoided up until then but have now been won over, we headed back. About 10 minutes into the 45 minutes drive, Cameron realized that his wallet was gone. We went back to Bubba Gump's, to no avail. We drove by the parking lot where we'd parked, to no avail. We drove home, thinking about how he was going to get on the 3 remaining plane rides without ID...
As we were putting the key in the door, ready for our mission of credit card replacement and logistic discovery, he got a call. A man had found his wallet on the ground and taken it back to his hotel, where they used his license to call directory assistance and get his roomate in Belleville, who gave them his cell number and mine. Hallelujah #2.
And for that, for it all, we had some wine.

Fore!
Good gracious. WHY why why why can I not seem to hit the ball sraight???? I think on 2 out of 18 holes, I hit a straight drive. And I think that both of those times, I was aiming left to compensate, and went into the water. Hi. I also used THREE - THREE sleeves of balls. Help.
But it was a gorgeous day, we were paired with a fun couple, and we got five beers and some chips for $15. Oh. And we're in Hawaii.

Aloha!
Good morning from the Grand Wailea Resort and Spa in Waliea, Maui, Hawaii.

Besides it taking 16 hours of travel to get here, SO GLAD to be here. While I had one of the BEST massages of my life yesterday morning, I'm still not quite 100% relaxed, but I'm getting there :).
We got in around 10pm local time (2am St. Louis time) and headed to the Alamo rent a car counter where the computers were down. 45 minutes later, we headed out to the resort. We quickly hit the hay. In the morning I had my amazing massage and then we headed over the the shops at Wailea to get some lunch. We of course did not escape without me purchasing two new pieces of jewelry that I'm very glad to now have in my collection. After that we headed down to the beach and watched the beginning of the sunset. We did some quick grocery shopping before a wonderful dinner at Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. Yeah. Exactly. Then we went to bed b/c dang. That was a long travel day.

I know it gets old, but...
I LOVE MY MAC. ALL MACS.
Nothing helps Mac love like having work on a PC 9-5. Really. I have had a mac work envoronment for at least the past 7 years, and I tell you, I miss it.
It took FIFTEEN MINUTES for my computer to start up yesterday morning. And then, b/c I had a font that wasn't on my work computer, it kept crashing word when I tried to print. It didn't tell me why, it just kept crashing.
LAME.

ByieEEEEEEEEEEEE
This went around in 2005, I just received it in a forward and the message stands true for 2006. and 07, and 08. Ect. Every day. I truly believe that if you aren't at least working towards this, you are choosing unhappiness.

Let it go for 2005. By T. D. Jakes
There are people who can walk away from you. And hear me when I tell you this! When people can walk away from you: let them walk. I don't want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. I mean hang up the phone. When people can walk away from you let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left. The bible said that, they came out from us that it might be made manifest that they were not for us. For had they been of us, no doubt they would have continued with us. [1 John 2:19]
People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not joined to you, you can't make them stay. Let them go. And it doesn't mean that they are a bad person it just means that their part in the story is over. And you've got to know when people's part in your story is over so that you don't keep trying to raise the dead. You've got to know when it's dead. You've got to know when it's over. Let me tell you something. I've got the gift of good-bye. It's the tenth spiritual gift, I believe in good-bye. It's not that I'm hateful, it's that I'm faithful, and I know whatever God means for me to have He'll give it to me. And if it takes too much sweat I don't need it. Stop begging people to stay.
If you are holding on to something that doesn't belong to you and was never intended for your life...... LET IT GO!!!
If you are holding on to past hurts and pains .....LET IT GO!!!
If someone can't treat you right, love you back, and see your worth....LET IT GO!!!
If someone has angered you .......LET IT GO!!!
If you are holding on to some thoughts of evil and revenge.....LET IT GO!!!
If you are involved in a wrong relationship or addiction......LET IT GO!!!
If you are holding on to a job that no longer meets your needs or talents .....LET IT GO!!!
If you have a bad attitude.......LET IT GO!!!
If you keep judging others to make yourself feel better.....LET IT GO!!!
If you're stuck in the past and God is trying to take you to a new level in Him.....LET IT GO!!!
If you are struggling with the healing of a broken relationship......LET IT GO!!!
If you keep trying to help someone who won't even try to help themselves......LET IT GO!!!
If you're feeling depressed and stressed ........LET IT GO!!!

I can definitely think of a few things I still need to let go, and oddly enough, they are mostly small trivial things that are logically no longer relevant to my life. But I think about them and I get truly heated. I need to take the time to really look at what about those situations really bothers me, work through it and let it fly. There are much bigger things that I have completely let go - there's no reason for these little things to be hanging around. My first self-assignment for 2006.

Movie #900
OMG. I'm finally watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 2005. We're only to Veruca and I've already died 3 times. My favorite so far is the scene in Morocco where they are trading goats and chickens for Wonka bars. Grandpa George is also killing me - "fat, fat, fat."
The movie madness started last night with Godfather. Then this morning we watched Godfather II and III. I then proceeded to watch the end of Prince of Tides (Babs scares me - it's official) and just finished First Daughter. Making me very sad that Katie Holmes is now insane, caring the baby of someone even more insane. Sigh.
Violet's mom is scaring me. Horribly.

But Clearly, Madame Giry

Good gracious this is bad.

ARGH
Ok, 1, I am finally watching the movie version of The Phantom of the Opera. And we're only at the Angel of Music scene after Christine makes her debut, but so far? NO ONE CAN SING. What is this about? Why is this ok? and yes, I realize that I'm late on this observation, but I think that's a small price to pay for having lived some additional time without every being subjected to this craziness.
Secondly, I still love my mac, and I still love Quicken, but DAT GUM (Guv'ment) if my files didn't corrupt out of nowhere. And DAT GUM (Guv'ment) if I'm not about 95% sure that it's due to iDisk synching madness. 2005? GONE. GONE.
And what's with Patrick Wilson's HAIR?
Though no one can yet sing, the story is making a lot more sense in this form...
Oh, goodness. I'd forgotten how cheesy this music is. go synth, go!
