Hello?
Apparently, Smokey Robinson is salty with the Dreamgirls movie b/c of its portrayal of Motown and payola.
Hello. Why wasn't he salty witht he musical which does the same but admittedly not so blatantly? And really, that's not what it's about and if you look at the history of the material it didn't even really come out of that... At which point perhaps I answered my own question. But still?...

Finally.
Trapped in the Closet is on Youtube. All 12 chapters. If you haven't watched it, please find some time, get some tissues and prepare to watch the most ridiculous thing EVER EVER MADE. It's so ridic, in fact, that I have yet to bring myself to watch chapters 7-12. I'm actually frightened.

On the Road Again
On the way up 55 (oh, scenic 55) pointed towards Evanston and a weekend of Northwestern theatre. Go Cats!
We're listening to the Dixie Chicks' latest album, which neither of us have really listened to all the way through, and it's pretty good.
I'm ready to go on record with the opinion that the GPS adds a whole new level of entertainment to the driving experience. I've already programmed a number of our destinations into the system complete with icons and sound effects, and Cameron has no idea. I've never denied being easily amused.
Additionally, it's pretty amusing to see the names of all the small towns along 55 pop up on he map. I think the winner so far is Fancy Prairie.

American Idol, Season 6, Episode 3
Somehow, this post disappeared last night, FEH.
I think that I told off Rosie O'Donnell b/c damn, people have had FIVE SEASONS to learn what they are signing up for and deserve all the reality that they get.
I think I made a comment about hoping that I, too, get a chance to misuse the word confidentiality on national television.
I definitely called the back-up singer girl as top 5. My second top 5 prediction, in writing. Bring it.
I don't think I had anything to say about the "Elvis" guy.
I am pretty sure I claimed last night as the funniest so far. I think that led into the rant on Rosie.

I Don't Care Who Knows It!
"So Amazing" by Luther Vandross. Is so amazing. End of lesson.
The remake tribute duet between Beyoncé and Stevie Wonder. Almost amazing, with some amazing parts. Like when Stevie comes in for the first time, and the harmonica line towards the end of the first verse. Go on, then, go ON.
Really, it's just a great song.
And ps - some serious kudos to whoever can tell me where "end of lesson" comes from...

Just, sad.
A HS girl did a documentary on race, repeating the "doll test" done during the Brown v. Education case, finding out just how much hasn’t changed. view here.
Here’s the full length (7 minutes) documentary.
Most of my dolls were black - maybe all of them, in fact. I think it was a rule... When Talking Baby Beans came out, they didn't make as many of the black ones, and our local toy store sold out before we could get there. I remember vividly not caring what color the doll was, I just wanted a Talking Baby Beans. And I said as much, though perhaps not articulating that seniment in the most accurate way. All I said was "I wish that I was white." Yeah. I remember being dragged out that store in a crying fit.

Smallest. World. Ever.
I can't believe that I didn't write about this yet, a.
Friday, the day of the Missouri Miracle, where a boy missing for 4 and a half years was found living with the same first name and the last name of his kidnapper an hour from where he disappeared, a friend I hadn't seen in 12 years came to town for an interview. But that's only the beginning.
In the summer of 1992, I was in a production of Big River at SIUE. I had just graduated from High School, but the the cast wast mostly college students. Chris Trares and Tony Visser were two of them. I kept in touch with Chris over the years, but hadn't really kept in touch with Tony, who is one of the funniest people I've ever met. But I digress.
When I was working at Rodgers Townsend, I met Katie McGrath, who in addition to being a professional rock star, is a a rock star rock star. She throws an annual indoor Christmas Caroling party and it's AWESOME. At the 2004 party, the piano player, Larry, and I totally hit it off, and at some point realized that we'd been hearing about each other for 12 years, through CHRIS TRARES (see above). After I started working at 46, it turns out that Larry works for one of our clients. Small world, right?
So back to Friday night. Chris is coming to town, he rounds up Tony and Larry, I bring Cameron, and we have a nice night out in the CWE despite the awful weather. During the evening, I as Tony where he's living right now:
Nicole: So, where are you living right now?
Tony: Rosewood Heights.
Nicole: Seriously!? I grew up in Rosewood Heights!
Tony: Really? Where?
Nicole: Carolee Ct.
Tony: Wait - my sister lives on Carolee Ct. Number 28 I think.
Nicole: That's crazy. We were at number 15.
Tony: Wait, 15? I was wrong, my sister is at 15!
Nicole: Nu uh.
Tony: No, no, i think so. Walk out basement?
Nicole: Yeah - White/Grey brick?
Tony: Willie lives next door?
Nicole: YES! Vicki and Willie - and the backyand goes like this (makes hi-to-low hilly motion with hand and arm)?
Tony: YES!
Nicole/Tony: HOLY SHIT!?!?!
Apparently, the bar that my parents had put in the basement before we moved has been renamed "The Peach Pit" and there's a party to be had there every weekend night. So plans are made for Cameron and I to join after trivia Saturday night, which we did. Long live the Peach Pit.
How can the world be so big and so small, all at the same time?

American Idol, Season 6, Episode 2
The hotness? The hotMESS. Mariah Carey inDEED.
Why is is that they build up the worst ones - like really build them up. And give them unsupportive husbands and little sons who make them cry... and the eyebrows. Poor thing...
Ok. I love these editors. Darwin, putting her number on her number over her braless boobs while her VO says "I'm trying out for American Idol because I think it's a great way to show off my talents" A novella. Really. WOW. WOW.
What's with the bring your dog to AI auditions crap?
That, Melissa, is a LOT OF TIGHTS (sic).
Blake Lewis, or BEAKER? Truly? (What's the mistaken identity theme in my life lately?) But his dad is my new hero. LOVE his dad.
LOVE the indian bro.sis. My favorites.
OW doesn't think so, but I'm pretty sure Nicholas is one, long, successful improv.
Love how they carried the locked left door through to Seattle.
"his jaw's not dropped! Shoot!"
"...one of those things that lives in the jungle, with those massive eyes... what do they called them... BUSH BABIES?"
Let me just say that if Simon called a black person a bush baby, the NAACP would be all over that. Or, as Cameron says, they would have edited it out, and we never would have known about it. So thank goodness Kenneth isn't black.
Jordan in the top 5.

More Proof That San Angelo is the Center of the Universe
My mom and I both go to the same hairdresser. We thought it was funny
that (before I met Cameron) her parents retired in San Angelo. In
fact, just a few weeks ago we were talking about how much its grown,
as she'd just returned from a visit over the holidays.
My mom just left an appointment, and called to tell me that our
hairdresser announced that she is packing up the truck next week and
moving to San Angelo to open a spa/beauty salon/beauty supply store.
Do not deny the power of San Angelo, I tell thee. Repent, repent! LOVE THE SAN ANGELO.

American Idol, Season 6, Episode 1
The Prince - Minneapolis connection: weak.
Love how they picked THE most Minnesotan girl ever for the first audition highlight. Poor girl. The dilusions of grandier starting so early this year? This, is gonna be rough.
Urban Amish is a fake.
"Unique vocal range" should have been the first sign.
They totally locked the second door on purpose. But it's funny.
They are not bringing out the crack baby at 7:24.
Dude with sticks. Not ok. "Juggling's just my entertainment, not my life."
"Me and Idol, we're like BFF."

Get With the Program
Why is it that no hotel in St. Louis can truly handle a major event? Every time I attend something at a downtown hotel, the service is a complete cluster$%.
We just pulled up to the Millennium hotel for the Sports Writer's Association dinner where no one was at the valet stand. We pull down further where we see a guy working, whom we ask about valet. He tells us to make the loop again to where we saw no one. We do so, at which point we are told that "there is no valet."
So wait. "World champion" St. Louis Cardinals event with national attention and there's "no valet?" Are you trying to be a real city or not?
So Cameron goes to park the car and I start this entry.
Then we get downstairs and go into th main ballroom, which smells like... wait for it... a frat house.
But now we're into the program, and I really just have one question: Lou Brock, Nipsey Russell, Ed Hightower - discuss.
Glenn Brummer "I'm just here for the bud light."

They all Look Alike
Downloading "hip workout music" for my boss, and noticing that every single alt-rock band not only looks the same, but has the same photographer apparently. What ever happened to originality? Who's creating anything anymore? What's going on???
