Recycle as a last resort

Sanders Says: Recycle as a last resort

I'm glad that we're talking about this now. As a society, we are so all about the quick fix. We glom onto something willy nilly and run with it, never looking back. Uh oh, Rudy, not good Theo! Be aware, be flexible, seek new information change your mind.

Is it really new info or just truly acting out what has already been known? It's always been "reduce, reuse, recycle." However, I think it's been more convenient for us as a society to focus on the recylce part and ignore the first two imperatives. Selective memory lets us continue to drive our gas guzzlers but feel righteous because we recycle our bottles and cans.

I am hopeful that the resurgance of buying local might help us to do better on the first parts of the motto.
