Kids really do say the dardest things

Kay's neighbor's kids are at it again. The body of the cracker indeed.

Reaper

Wow. I heard tell that the Reaper season premiere had been described as "the best television pilot ever."

I'm going to have to agree. Completely.

I mean, I haven't seen every television pilot ever, but this is some funny, smart, well produced and directed stuff.

Awesome.

Survivor China: Premiere

So, you've probably watched Survivor before (as awesome as Earl is, I'm sure he's an anomaly). Would you not consider, at any moment, that your stuff might be left behind and therefore not wear HEELS? I mean, please.

What a day

This, I don't know what to say about. So many levels. I don't know where to start.

And then finally, it all starts to come out on Mr. Floyd Irons.

Officially over the Jena 6 Circus

Congratulations everyone, we've officially missed the point. Again.

Yes, this town in LA is likely racist and there is likely an abuse of power (though please note there is a higher percentage of Blacks in Jena than in Edwardsville).

Yes, the charges are likely harsh.

Yes, saying it isn't a racial incident is questionable.

But can we have a march on demanding better schools? I would venture to guess that MORE people from St. Louis went to protest in Jena that protested the state takeover of the city schools. Maybe even more who voted in the last school board election.

Can we have a march on a situation where the demands are reasonable? In a CNN article, a woman, who pulled her children out of school to make this trip says, ""The reason I brought my children is because it could have been one of them" involved in an incident like the one in Jena. If this can happen to them [the Jena 6] , it can happen to anyone." CORRECTION. IF YOUR KIDS DON'T KICK ANYONE'S ASS, THEY WILL NOT PUT THEMSELVES IN DANGER OF THIS HAPPENING IN THE SLIGHTEST.

Can we have a march on positive male role models to prevent tensions escalating to violence? The father of the most harshly charged boy (with two priors) is quoted as admitting his absence did not help the situation and he's now willing to be more present in his son's life.

Can we have a march on pulling up your damn pants?

I just wish this were all inspiring the right conversations, shining light on the root issues we _can_, _should_ and are long past taking control of, instead of by design, pulling people further apart.

Downtime Roadtrip

As I type, we're leaving Edwardsville to play a party in Wichita, KS. It should be full of memories to last a lifetime. And some good quotes.

Chris: I had this dream where I had to get through a small door and I was eating things to make m bigger and smaller.

Mat: The mushrooms make you bigger.

Chris: I thought the mushrooms made her smaller.

Mat: Oh, I was talking about Mario.

Chris: Ah, the other classic.

1:07pm - Note to the world: Do not get off of I-35 in Kansas at Ottowa, exit 183. We're not quite sure what universe we just ripped through, but it wasn't pretty. Not even in the least. Mat - "If this is the breadbasket of America, then I'm not eatin' the bread."

The world should know that Dave just got Peabo Bryson confused with Bilbo Baggins.

Two things

A. I'm very proud of the invite I just finished for my mom's big birthday bash

2. It's his choice to ride without the helmet, but come one - must he wear that T-shirt? Alanis, where are you?

Hot Ghetto Mess part IV

Would you rather put your money in the stock market or the lottery? "People die from investin' in the stock market. I don't know nobody who die from playin' the lottery - and at the end of the year - you can claim them old lottery tickets."

OMG. BUBB RUBB WAS JUST ON. ____________________

What was the last book you read? "Now, that's something I don't do."

Hot Ghetto Mess part III

Streetwalking with Hot Ghetto Mess:

Mercedes Benz or a condo? - "Give me hoopdie and an apt and I'll be straight"

Can you recite some lines from Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech? - "I wasn't even boooorn when he die - when he die? 1968 or sumthin'? That's my momma's department."

What is Kwanzaa? "Kwanzaa - Kwanzaa is a Mexican holiday." (black man)

Who is the Secretary of State? "I'm in the military so I should know this... but I... I don't know!" "Which state?"

when were black men given the right to vote? "um, I think it was in the 80's - the late 80's"

Um, please tell me someone saw this show and the preacher clip where he street preached and then took a swig from a gallon jug of RED KOOL-AID. Brilliant in its simplicity.
