Kmart magic

Last night, I sang with Downtime for the first time since, what - September? It was great to see the guys again, but the true highlight of the night was our location.

I knew it was a "Kmart opening" so I thought I was ready. But I wasn't. Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot - they are all sprouting up everywhere around here lately, so I figured it was going to be a new big box store with all the trimmings.

Well, I get off the highway and see the Kmart sign and think "huh, I guess they've gone retro with their signange, ok." Then I pull into the lot and it all becomes clear: This isn't a Grand Opening. This a "Grand re-Opening." A "Renovation CelebRation" as they were calling it. How very Kmart.

This was gonna be good.

They had the band set up right as you came in the store, just to the left of the... wait for it... red carpet. They had a photographer taking photos as people came in, as well we a little "party portrait" corner set up - just like in da club (and there were a few treating it as such).

We played from 7 - 9, and the varied looks on folks' faces as they came into Kmart and found a LIVE BAND ranged from booty shakin' to glares.

Around 8:30, we kicked into "I Will Survive," and yup, you guessed it, people started to DANCE. In the Kmart. We segued into "Brick House," and the rest, is please-erase-it-from-my-memory-for-the-rest-of-my-life history.

Here's Mat's recap of the night on Facebook (you have to be logged in to see it).

The first 12 photos in this Facebook album will be more fun with comments and tags. Here's the Full album of 42 photos on Ofoto without the commentary.

Either way, madness.
