Coming clean
At just under the completion of my 14th week (which is technically still "week 13" in pregnancy talk), I'm coming clean, going 100% public, letting the world know that Cameron and I are expecting the newest Hollway in early October of this year.
We're extremely excited. We've narrowed down some names, but they won't be going public until Li'l Poop (that's the in utero name) makes his/her appearance. And on that front, it's not until around week 20 that you can find out the sex, and if we do, that will likely stay on the down-low as well. I know. We're such party poopers.
As of today, I'm feeling better than I did. I haven't been literally sick, but I've been pretty constantly nauseated for the past 8 weeks. The past few days have been a welcome change of pace. Here's hoping I'm in the 2nd trimester clear!
I'll be adding baby process related photos here on Facebook (you don't have to join to view them, but you should join b/c then I can keep up with you too :)).
Here are all the posts I've held back as "drafts" since January 30th :)
In other news, in February I accepted a part-time position as the General Manager of a new online regional new source currently called The St. Louis Platform, soon to be called The St. Louis Beacon (long story). It's a non-profit online start-up centered around the idea that content is king - what could be better?
I mean, besides creating life with the love of my life, what could be better than a non-profit online start-up centered around the idea that content is king? :)
And I'm soliciting the "Top 10 Things I Wish Someone Had Broken Down for Me" from all the mothers out there. From whether or not a fancy crib is worth it to the completely random trick you uncovered to fight swollen feet. Bring it on!

Congratulations!
My best advice is this - after Li'l Poop is born, keep a glass of wine in left hand at all times.

Congratulations, Nicole.
I look forward to all of the pictures that you will be sharing!
Maybe I should have a kid so it can be penpals with yours when they are 13!

WONDERFUL NEWS!!! You're gonna love Parenthood. As my best friend put it (he had his first a few months before my first): Just when you think it can't get any funner, it does!
Let's see, Top 10, eh?
Well, first bit of advice regards finding out the sex: If either you or Cameron have a STRONG preference for either a girl or a boy, I think it's best to find out in advance. That way, if it's not the gender you were hoping for, you have months to adjust and be ready for the little bundle on the big day.
This means honesty time--yeah yeah, we all know that you'll be happy with whatever it is and it doesn't really matter, blah blah blah. But I'll come right out and admit that with our first, we were REALLY hoping for a boy. I mean, REALLY. Both of us. So we found out in advance. (Hooray!) With our second, it didn't matter so much really--some days I wanted it to be a boy and some days I wanted it to be a girl. So we let it be a surprise. (Hooray again!)
So, having gone through it both ways, I can really stand by this bit of advice that was passed down to me by that same friend who said the thing about it getting funner and funner. And...guess what--he was really hoping for a boy but let it be a surprise, and it turned out to be a girl. Hence his advice. He admitted that the big day was tinged with a touch of sadness that he didn't get the little boy he (thought) he wanted. He was brave enough to admit that the disappointment lasted for a couple days (he had really convinced himself it was a boy and really had to adjust to reality), and ever since then he's been head over heels in love with his daughter, like any father. But, trust me--that day is emotional enough without heaping anything else on to it. So, if you do have a preference, find out in advance.
Will post more about fancy cribs (it's one of the very few items we splurged on) and fancy strollers (which we did not splurge on) and slings and pregnancy cookbooks and sardines and birthing centers in the days to come.
Aren't you sorry you asked???
