It also all comes back to Les Mis
More things I love about my husband:
Before we met, he'd never seen a professional live theatrical performance, much less a musical. In fact, he'd never seen ANY live production of a musical. Those who know me well know that when I was 14, I knew all the words to most musical. In fact, some are still accessible with terrifying ease.
So it was only a matter of time before Cameron was dragged to a musical or two. The shocking part? He loves some of them. Like as much as I did when I was 14. And some of them (Pajama Game??) that I never gave the time of day.
The inspiration for this post: we're currently driving down for our annual Texas visit. KMOX finally went out of range, so I plug in the iPod and fire up the shuffle play. Within 10 songs, "Stars" from Les Mis comes on and Cameron immediately demands that we listen to the entire soundtrack (cast recording) "all the way through, from the beginning."
Oh, how far we've come :).
And the best part is that he recognizes and agrees with all the nerdy details that give me chills (cello lines, horn parts, the bass drum in "On My Own" that I may have just noticed).
All this and he's handy too? I'm a lucky gal :)
Side note: Frances Rufelle, the original straight-tone belting queen.

James report
James is scheduled for surgery! July 8th.
A Dr. visit last Friday confirmed that the pancreatic cyst is dissolving. He's having some discomfort and pain as this happens, but knowing the discomfort and pain are for a good cause is helping his spirits.
He's had to drastically change his diet, which has not helped his spirits. He's also on insulin most days, as part of his pancreas is just, gone.
So that's the scoop. All prayers and good vibes welcome as he approaches surgery date and recovery.

John McCain is aware of the internet
My husband tried to argue this with me. I agree - it's not partisan, it's reality.

62nd Annual Tony Awards
LK looked good, sound was a little, wtf, or something. great opening, Disney is happy.
Why is Whoopi holding her dress together - and what is that dress and omg it's been 10 years since LK opened. I'm old.
Ok, I think the negro count, in the first 5 minutes of the Tonys, is higher than it's maybe ever been in 61 years of Tonys. And now we're 20 minutes in, and it's been some time since a negro sighting and Whoopi's taking care of it by calling out two of them on camera. Hilarious.
Ok, and now we're on to Passing Strange and there are MORE BLACK PEOPLE. This is a record. For real.
That Carol Channing/LL clip (more black people) from 2004? I've been looking for it on YouTube ever since. PLEASE let me be able to find it by morning so that I can view it over and over again FOREVER.
I am so going to have to make it to NYC to see Patti in Gypsy. Such a brilliant show. Such a brilliant score. Don't get me started on the overture. Nobody does psycho like Patti. Nice shot of Liza. That's right, baby, you could never even touch that.
Now, see, I could have gone without ever hearing the 1980-ness that is the Phantom score... even for the Whoopi/Christine joke.
Now we've really broken new ground. Latin rap (see Carol/LL above for rap in general) and blasphemy on the Tonys!
[I just missed about 45 minutes driving home from my parents']
And in the same year the black-folks-o-meter is buss, the latino-meter goes crazy!
Nicole, your dad just killed me.
Dude. Wilson. Rent makes me feel OLD! But it sure was an amazing time.
Good thing I don't have time to get teary eyed over Rent since it was followed by Liza... and her BRA. Cameron: "I don't want to see 70 yr old boobs!" "Schouth Paschific!"

I always knew that Evan Levy was my hero
My friend Evan has hit the nail on the head - his latest Facebook status:
"Evan Levy thinks the candidates should be filmed living in a house together until the election. That's change I can believe in."
I mean, we've dumbed the campaign down to that point anyway, we might as well go for it. Survivor: President.

Thanks for joining us in the present, Nicole
Today, after months (maybe years) of knowing I wanted to, I finally set up my Google Reader. This, is a happy day.
Yesterday, however, I was - without warning - subjected to something I thought I had permanently removed from my consciousness. Brooklyn, the Musical.
Oy.
