OMG
Facebook is down. Where does one write about that? When Blackberry crashes, or there's an earthquake or someone gets voted off a reality show, it's all over FB. But when FB goes down? Where's the outlet!?
I've been refreshing my Google reader, thinking one of the blogs I follow will pick up on it. And as I look for the witty entries, I form the thought that I'm really looking forward to the aftermath of this little outage. What LOL-Cat Faildog like hilarity and snarkiness will ensue?
Pins and needles, I am. Oh wait. Facebook is back. Gotta go.

Metromix St. Louis+Facebook=FAIL
I just defriended Metromix St. Louis - a new local website launching and likely something I have a friend or two involved with - on Facebook.
They friend-requested me a month or so ago, and while I initially thought "this is so MySpace, they need to go build a fan page and stop friending people" I accepted, just to see if maybe someone I knew was behind it, or if they would do something clever (like Bonny Doon Vineyard has sporadically done).
Then the status updates started. Blatant promotional status updates. Countdown to launch and come on out and save the date and nothing to do this weekend, check us out. We all have friends who use status for self promotion, but (mostly) they are creative/genuine about it and well, they are people, not businesses. Annoying. So I passive aggressively write a status about how people needed to learn the difference between a fan page and a status update. Like with their 750 "friends" they would see it. Like with their broadcast-only use of FB they would read it even if they did only have a handful of friends. But I felt better.
This afternoon was the final straw. Something I don't think I've seen since the likes of perverts trying to chat with strangers on AIM in the late 90's. I returned from lunch and there was a OPEN CHAT SCREEN FROM THEM REMINDING ME OF THEIR LAUNCH PARTY.
So I wrote on their wall that they should investigate a fan page instead of spam chatting people and informed them that I was defriending them. Like they care. Like they will. Like they won't delete my wall post [they already did].
But now I'm really irritated. I'm really excited for new and fun things to happen in St. Louis, and I'm really irked by the fact that this new online venture (which would lead one to believe that they know something about online) so blatantly didn't bother to LEARN HOW TO USE THE INTERNET EFFECTIVELY.
FAIL.
