Swaddle, I hardly new ye'

The swaddle is officially a thing of the past. So quickly! He was spending a lot of energy busting out of it instead of falling asleep, and so, alas. Adios. Now we're on to the sleep sack.

He's starting to make noises besides burping, crying, whimpering an grunting. It's getting cute. I'm pretty sure he made his first babble at Bob Duffy today. While half naked. On my desk @ work.

The mystery of sleep

This whole sleeping thing is fascinating. What time, what clothes, swaddle? No swaddle? The world of the video monitor, his own room, day naps versus night sleeping - so many variables, and he's too young to really fall into much of a consistent pattern so really the experimentation is mostly for me to develop - or avoid - a bag of tricks and knowledge about how he reacts to what. We're on day four, and today I started taking notes...

And, I am fully walking around the house with the video monitor hooked in my belt loop.

Li'l Poop, big poop

I have to comment that I survived my first poop cloth diaper. Aren't you glad I didn't make that my status? :)

Last night Hugh slept the longest he's ever slept before (4 hrs 20 minutes) followed by being awake from 3am - 6am. Whoo hoo! He usually does two four hour stretches at night, but the extra 20 minutes got me all excited.

Tonight (at the advice of the pediatrician and two separate highly recommended books) we started the scheduled sleeping. I think it was harder for Cameron than it was for me, but it only took him an hour to go to sleep, and the crying wasn't continuous. We'll see how the rest of the night goes... He's asleep now, so I'm about to follow Cameron's lead and do the same!

I voted.

Feelin' a little misty-eyed casting my vote today knowing that I've got a little person who will live with the results of today's election. Feeling like the huge voter turnout is the dawning of a renewed energy in this country (regardless of who wins) and praying that the level of engagement will NOT fall off after today. Also praying that the level of engagement moves beyond ill-researched email forwards and blanket empty statements. All in the name of Li'l Poop.
