I knew I loved The Knot
Let the choir sing. The Knot has launched a baby website. Consolidated trendy registry. Hallelujah. The Nest Baby.
In the meantime, the nausea is BACK. Sadness, dites moi. It's not nearly as bad as it was before, but it's been back the past few days. And I am even more tired than I was in the beginning.
But I am more and more excited every day to meet the PERSON growing INSIDE ME.

Week 16
Toward the end of week 15, I thought/hoped that I was rounding the corner into the land free of nausea, fatigue and general "bleah."
So wrong.
Sunday night/Monday morning, my mom took my dad to the emergency room. It wasn't until Tuesday afternoon that it was confirmed that he has acute pancreatitis, caused by gall stones. Sohe's in the hospital until the pancreatic swelling goes down, then they'll remove his gall bladder, hopefully laproscopically.
I say all that to say that I'm not unconvinced that my week of digestive hell was not somewhat caused by stress, or eerily sympathetic. All I know is that I didn't sleep at all Monday night. It was as though part of my intestine on my left side was in a knot, and every time my digestive system pulsed, it was like a KNIFE IN MY ABDOMEN. This went on, in lessening amounts thanks to a serious diet shift, milk of magnesia and some acupuncture, all week. It's still going on now, but mildly enough that I actually functioned like a person today.
One word. OW.

Coming clean
At just under the completion of my 14th week (which is technically still "week 13" in pregnancy talk), I'm coming clean, going 100% public, letting the world know that Cameron and I are expecting the newest Hollway in early October of this year.
We're extremely excited. We've narrowed down some names, but they won't be going public until Li'l Poop (that's the in utero name) makes his/her appearance. And on that front, it's not until around week 20 that you can find out the sex, and if we do, that will likely stay on the down-low as well. I know. We're such party poopers.
As of today, I'm feeling better than I did. I haven't been literally sick, but I've been pretty constantly nauseated for the past 8 weeks. The past few days have been a welcome change of pace. Here's hoping I'm in the 2nd trimester clear!
I'll be adding baby process related photos here on Facebook (you don't have to join to view them, but you should join b/c then I can keep up with you too :)).
Here are all the posts I've held back as "drafts" since January 30th :)
In other news, in February I accepted a part-time position as the General Manager of a new online regional new source currently called The St. Louis Platform, soon to be called The St. Louis Beacon (long story). It's a non-profit online start-up centered around the idea that content is king - what could be better?
I mean, besides creating life with the love of my life, what could be better than a non-profit online start-up centered around the idea that content is king? :)
And I'm soliciting the "Top 10 Things I Wish Someone Had Broken Down for Me" from all the mothers out there. From whether or not a fancy crib is worth it to the completely random trick you uncovered to fight swollen feet. Bring it on!

It mooooves!
Second OB appointment today.

I didn't see it as well, but Cameron said it was bobbing its head. Wow. We heart the heart beat this time as well - 176.
I know this happens every day all the time all over the world, but it really never gets less fascinating.

Baby Bump
I've been out of my pants for a couple weeks now, but tonight was the first time I really felt like I looked obviously preggers.
My sister and I sang back-up (along with Kim Stamps) for Reggie Thomas' Stevie Wonder show - which is awesome. We had to wear all black with a splash of color. The only black pants that are wearable at this point are a pair of the maternity pants my sister sent down for me. They are the kind with the belly panel that comes all the way up over your stomach. I luckily had a long-waisted black tank that worked perfectly with them, but the effect was decidedly, well, pregnant looking.

No?

On the same page
Today was our first OB appointment, and consequently first glance at our CHILD. OMG.
We couldn't hear the heartbeat yet, but we SAW it, which was CRAZY. Cameron stated later that starting that moment, we'd be worried about keeping that heart beating for the rest of our lives (God willing).
Deep.
Upon this ultrasound and measuring the little bean (about 4mm), Karyn adjusted her due date to put me at the 6 week mark - so early October, just like we thought :)!

Mystery solved
A week and a half ago after going through the hair routine which has become the norm over the past 6 months or so, I noticed that something wasn't quote right. I thought maybe I inadvertently did something different, I was in a rush, it was the weather - something.
A couple night ago, I did a google search on whether or not it's safe to get a relaxer while pregnant (opinions vary). A few people mentioned that their hair didn't TAKE the relaxer while they were pregnant. I thought, "huh."
Then I did my hair yesterday and it did the exact same thing it did a week and a half ago and it became clear. This is what's up for the next nine months.

Hormones are a beyatch. No, for real.
Today I almost blessed out the checkout girl and bag guy at Dierberg's.
They asked the usual question: paper or plastic? Having been too put out to be going at all to deal with my chicobags, I requested paper. They proceed to wrap not one, but TWO of my items in plastic. HELLO? Luckily, I realized it was my hormones, and just let it be.
Later, watching the Superbowl, Cameron informs me that Jordin Sparks sang the National Anthem and that it was really good. Immediately, how awesome that must have been for her and her family in addition to her emotional win last year flashes through my mind and I'm TEARING UP????
It's gonna be a long 9 months...

6 weeks - no, 5 - actually 3
Let me say that the whole 40 weeks is really 38 weeks is really not at all thing is maddening. The 40 weeks is what they call the menstrual time and the 38 is gestational. The menstrual measure is how they measure everything, so when people bandy about x number of weeks, that's what they're talking about. Only problem is that the menstrual measurement is based on a typical 28 day cycle. Mine is 36. So, even though my OB is one of my BFFs, we've decided to take everything she says and subtract a week :). She's as strong willed as I am, so we'll see how that goes.
In the mean time, 5 week (6 week/3 week) mark - whoo hoo!
